History
The last thirty years of vine-growing have shaped the history of this southern region but the history of Clos Saint Gorges is rooted in the furrows left by the Greeks, the Romans, the Knights Templar and the Cathars in Languedoc Roussillon. In 1970, Dominique and Claude ORTAL began to guide the destiny of Clos Saint Georges, with a view to perpetuating the immutable rite of vineyard and wine. The passion of this couple for their vineyard and their untiring quest to take the art of wine-grower at its highest level have made Clos Saint Georges one of the finest vineyard of southern France.
Vineyard
Clos Saint Georges is located in an exceptional land called "The Aspres", a corner of paradise in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Today, the vineyards of Clos Saint Georges extend over 120 ha, -with 50 ha of young plantations were established in 2010 and 2011-, so that it is one of the most important wine-producing entity in South of France. New plantings - Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat d’Alexandrie, Muscat Petit Grain - will quickly bring the potential annual production from 2500 to 5000 hl. But the vineyards of Clos Saint Georges are also brands Clos Saint Georges, Canterrane Castle, Camomille Castle, Clos des Aspres and the “Emotion Oc Collection”.
With a deep respect for environment, rational farming methods are implemented in the vineyards of Clos Saint Georges : systematic ploughing, abandonment of chemical herbicides, reasoned and controlled treatments .... all factors allowing the production of high quality wines where the authenticity of terroir has found its place.
Wine-Making
The grapes are harvested when fully mature, then carefully sorted, destemmed and selected. The cellars of Clos Saint Georges are equiped with the latest techniques of cold and pressing, ensure a vinification of the highest quality, complemented by a bottling area in finalizing a real authenticity.
Two main types of wines are made:
- Dry wines, red, white and rose : AOP Côtes du Roussillon Les Aspres, AOP Côtes du Roussillon, IGP Vin de Pays d'Oc
- Natural sweet wines : AOP Rivesaltes, AOP Muscat de Rivesaltes.

Claude and Dominique ORTAL, members of INDEPENDENT GROWERS OF FRANCE and of the society called AUTHENTIC FRENCH WINES, are engaged in a phase of international expansion. The independent growers of AUTHENTIC FRENCH WINES are altogether representative of over 35 prestigious French appellations that are recognized in France and abroad. Some examples of the services available to all importers : first of all, they have a direct contact with each wine grower, but they also have the option of a single point of withdrawal.
